Overview
Buddhism, the world’s four-largest religion, originated in Ancient India around 27 centuries ago and developed into three main schools: Mahayana (China, Vietnam, Korea, Japan), Theravada (Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia) and Vajrayana (Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, Mongolia). Buddhism entered Vietnam through the one-thousand-year domination of China. That is the reason why this religion in Vietnam was influenced by Taoism, Han folk religion and Vietnamese folk religion.
Hue, one of the Buddhism centers of Vietnam, is where more than 60 percent of the population is Buddhist. By joining Hue Buddhism Tour, you will have chance to explore the Orient Culture and Spiritual life. Discover the diversity of Hue culture, architecture and Buddhism, which were strongly influenced by China and India.

AM: Have breakfast early at your hotel, as we will depart very soon this morning before the streets are crowded. Our guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel at 6:30 am to enjoy the fresh air and mist of early dawn. Start your morning with QiGong practice at Cat Tuong Quan Zen House. In the belief of Taoists, Buddhists, and Confucians, practicing QiGong helps us reach a higher level of awareness and maintain mindfulness. Enjoy tea with traditional pastries, walk around the area, and listen to the sounds of nature before you leave.
After the class, you will be transferred to Phat Dung Pagoda, a typical Mahayana Pagoda located on the mountain slope, featuring characteristics commonly found in Vietnamese pagodas. Here stands a large GuanYin (Lady Buddha) statue visible from Khai Dinh Mausoleum.
Next, visit Thien Lam Pagoda, a typical Theravada Pagoda (a minority school of Buddhism in Vietnam) and explore its stunning architecture, which is strongly influenced by Indian Buddhism. It’s even called “Indian Pagoda” by local people. You will understand the differences between these two schools of Buddhism, from architecture and Kasaya (monks' clothes) to practicing methods.
After visiting two typical pagodas of Buddhism, you will be transferred to another pagoda for lunch. If you are lucky with timing, you can join the “Cau An Ceremony” at noon before lunch, praying for peace and good health.
PM: After lunch, you will be transferred along the route between rice fields and mountain scenery to visit Huyen Khong Son Thuong Pagoda, located in a valley among hills and mountains. This 30-year-old pagoda is a unique Theravada Pagoda in Hue. Mahayana monks tend to practice asceticism and dwell in forests, which is why Huyen Khong Son Thuong is not easy to reach. However, unlike the “Indian Pagoda” you visited in the morning, this pagoda is built in Chinese and Vietnamese style, showcasing cultural interferences. Enjoy the atmosphere of this remote place.
Leaving Huyen Khong Son Thuong, you will head to the famous Thien Mu Pagoda. On the way to Thien Mu, you will pass by the Temple of Literature, which honors and worships Confucius. Visit Thien Mu Pagoda (also called Linh Mu), the oldest and most famous pagoda in Hue, with a long history in the Hue Ancient Capital.
Board a dragon boat to sail down the Perfume River and enjoy the sunset on a clear day. Arrive at Toa Kham dock, where you will be transferred back to your hotel by car (or on foot if you want to walk around the city). End of tour. Goodbye and see you again!
