Overview

Besides its poetic and ancient beauty, Hue offers more attractions for international tourists because of the cultural values of minority groups. When you join the two-day Aluoi DMZ tour to remote rural regions, you will realize that the time spent there is not wasted at all; on the contrary, you will receive a hearty welcome from ethnic people and gain the right respect for their habits and customs. Above all, this tour will take you to specialized historic spots of the DMZ.

Day 1: Hue – A Luoi – Hamburger Hill – Homestay in A Roang village ~ 100 km

Morning: Depart from your hotel in Hue at 8:00 am. You will be transferred to A Luoi, about 70 km away. Along the way from Hue to A Luoi, you can see the natural beauty and minority people in the Highland Mountains. After a 2-hour drive, you'll be impressed by the neglected natural scenery, which has existed for a long time with the old forests, mountain partitions, deep chasms, and the pure streams flowing around the whirlpools. After a short rest, you will start to visit a well-known military site from the war between America and Vietnam – Hamburger Hill (nicknamed 937 Hill) by trekking. The driver will take you to the foot of the hill, from where you will trek systematically to the top of the hill to enjoy and discover. From the summit of this hill, you can see the whole sight of the airport and the combat base. Return to A Luoi Center and have lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon: Continue your journey to A Roang commune, one of the community-based villages of A Luoi district. Upon arrival at Aka - Achi village in A Roang, visit the village patriarch and listen to stories about the history and culture of the local Ta Oi ethnic group. Experience the traditional handicraft of Det Dzeng textile weaving with locals, to witness how women weave their dresses or even admire the way they thread yarns on looms with their best tenacious efforts. Here you will also have a chance to relax at A Roang Hot Spring for more leisure. Check into your homestay. Have dinner with local cuisine made by the Ta Oi people. The evening is your free time to explore nightlife here, walk around the village, or talk with locals for cultural exchange. Overnight at the homestay.

Day 2: Visit DMZ – Transfer to Hue ~ 330 km

Morning: Wake up early in the morning to experience the activities and morning life of local people, as well as enjoy the fresh mountain air. Have breakfast at your homestay. Then, leave A Roang for DMZ on Ho Chi Minh Trail to visit Dakrong Bridge, the starting point of Highway 15, one of the main branches of the Ho Chi Minh Trail. This is an opportunity for you to meet ethnic people in the highlights of Central Vietnam like Ka Tu, Van Kieu, Paco in their villages to learn about their customs and ways of living. Then visit Khe Sanh combat base – one of the most famous sieges of the American Vietnamese War and was the site of a United States base that fell under attack in early 1968. You will see the old airfield of red dirt that still remains. Enter the museum of Ta Con airport to see the artifacts of the fierce war and learn about how the Quang Tri people fought against the enemy! Reach the Rock pile described as 230 high-piles of rocks, an observation point of US Troops in the pass. Coming to this place, tourists will see a vast mountain standing on an unequalled position. Have lunch at a restaurant in Dong Ha.

Afternoon: In the afternoon, the DMZ tour will take you back to the war sites including Hien Luong bridge, which crosses the Ben Hai River at the middle of the DMZ and marks the former border between North and South Vietnam from 1954 to 1972. Take a stop at the museum to see the exhibition of historic objects during the war. Then visit Vinh Moc tunnels – a network of tunnels built by villagers seeking shelter from bombings during the Vietnam War. This is the place where an entire village lived for two and a half years. Visiting these tunnels, you can see and admire the resilience of the Vietnamese people during the war. In this complex, wells, kitchens, and rooms were built for each family, along with spaces for healthcare. Return to Hue city. The tour ends at your hotel.
